Twice per week, children start the day working and playing in the garden. Children and adults have worked hard digging out a sandpit and creating a vegetable patch. In April, children went on a trip to Dangan Nurseries to purchase some more plants for our garden. Garden work with spades, rakes and hoes is not only excellent for developing motor skills, it also gives the children a sense of purpose: They learn that through working the soil, sowing, watering and caring for the seedling, they produce the food that they are going to eat.

Outdoor free play includes the sandpit, a water station, blocks and tree logs for obstacle courses and building projects, as well as stilts, hobbyhorses and other movement toys.
